How do you empower your clients to live their Signature Life?
As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional, I empower and motivate our clients, and their families, by identifying and capitalizing on their strengths and creating complementary goals on an ongoing basis. For example, when clients leave the workforce, and perhaps 6 out of 10 of our relationships are retired, attainable goals become challenges to overcome similar to what they experienced in the workforce. We use Goal Planning & Monitoring software to not only show our “how to do it” but also give them the confidence to know they “can do it”. The Signature Life is one that is well planned and allows for flexibility and the power to choose between several options.
What does your life look like outside of the office?
My wife, Kristin, and our son, Turner, are the priority when I’m out of the office. We like to be outside whether it’s at the pool, the beach, a soccer game, walking, running or riding bikes. During the week, I also find time to participate in the Leland Area Rotary Club and it’s many civic activities. Our club, of which I was President in 2016-2017, pack backpacks full of food for children who don’t have enough at home on the weekends. We pick up trash on the roadside and raise money for high school scholarships and Alzheimer’s Research. I am active in the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce and am a member of the Executive Committee on the Novant Brunswick Hospital Board of Trustees. If there’s any time left, I might find some time to play poker, scuba dive, or simply sit in a chair (yeah, right).
What can you tell us about your professional journey?
I got my start in the business by filing paperwork for my father, who was also a CFP® professional with Raymond James. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1999, I worked with my father before applying and being hired as a Research Liaison in the Raymond James home office in January 2001. I worked my way up to Senior Research Associate before deciding to move with my wife back to North Carolina and open up a Raymond James’ office in Leland in 2007. I earned the CFP® designation in 2012 and joined Signature Wealth in 2018. I am also an Eagle Scout, and the scout motto “Be Prepared” has become my daily mantra.
FUN FACT:
Jon participated in a 3 week Outward Bound course that took him to Nepal’s Langtang Valley where he hiked up a glacier and onto Yala Peak (5500 meter elevation or ~18,000 ft).
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.
